An Internet domain is a string of characters that identifies a website or email, like spacewww.com. Its main purpose, along with the Domain Name System (DNS), is to convert hard-to-remember IP addresses into easier, searchable terms.

A website must be hosted on a web server in a data center to be visible online. This server connects to the internet for user access.

Without the Domain Name System, Internet users would need to access each web service using an IP address. This would limit the number of possible websites, as it’s common for multiple domains to share the same IP address.

Domain names consist of two parts:

  1. The label – defines the name
  2. The extension – indicates the category of the domain name (.com, .org, .net, etc.)

Choosing a good domain name is vital, as it represents your website and plays a crucial role in its ranking. Search engines rigorously index domain names, so including a keyword that users are likely to search for can help the domain rank higher.

After selecting a domain name, it is necessary to register it. Domain registration involves acquiring control over a domain name through a fee paid to a registrar. Domains can be registered as long as they are available and adhere to specific domain extension regulations.

From our website Space WWW, you can check the availability of domain names, either from the main page or by visiting Domain Names page.

Type in your chosen name for your page or business and click ‘Search’

Let’s see an example: my page will be called ‘pets world’

When pressing “Search”, the browser opens another page where it indicates whether the domain name is available or already registered

We can see that for the chosen name as an example we have the .org extension available: pets-world.org

We also see already registered domains, e.g.: pets-world.com, pets-world.com, petsworld.com

It should be noted that when assigning an available domain name, the only rule that applies is ‘first come, first served.’ That is, the first to register it will own it.

The next step of the registration would be to select the period for which you want to register the chosen domain (the minimum is one year) and add it to the shopping cart.
