Setting up IMAP in Mozilla Thunderbird 13.0.1

1. Open Thunderbird, click “Create a new account.” Enter your name, email address, and password. Click “Continue ”

2. The program will search for server settings. Click “Manual Configuration” when it appears.

3. Verify the Server Configuration details:

  • INCOMING EMAIL:
      • The email type is IMAP.
      • The server name is “mail” followed by your domain name (e.g., mail.domain.com).
      • The port is 143.
      • For SSL, select “Connection Security” as NONE.
      • The “Identification” option should be set to NORMAL PASSWORD.
  • OUTGOING MAIL:
      • The server name is the word “mail.” followed by your domain name (example mail.domain.com).
      • The port must be 25.
      • In SSL, select “NONE” for the “Connection Security” option.
      • The “Identification” option should be “NORMAL PASSWORD”
      • The username must be your full email address.

4. Click “Create Account.” You may see another screen notifying you that you are creating an account without encryption. Check the “I understand the risks” box and click “Create Account”

5. After your account is created, return to your email program, and go to Tools -> Account Settings -> Server Settings -> Advanced.

6. On the next screen, ensure that INBOX is selected in the “IMAP Server Directory” section. (It’s crucial to include a period after INBOX in capital letters.) Click OK.

7. You’ve now finished setting up your account.

IMPORTANT: For IMAP email to sync your folders correctly, they must have the same name on all devices. They can’t be called “Inbox” in Outlook and “Incoming Mail” on your iPhone; they must have the same name.
