What is Spam?

Spam refers to unsolicited or unwanted emails. Generally, they are used for advertising and sent in bulk and indiscriminately.

They are one of the problems currently facing the Internet, already accounting for more than 90% of all emails sent.

How Spam is Sent?

Trojans are currently spreading rapidly through unprotected or vulnerable computers. Spammers exploit infected computers as “zombie computers” to send spam. Users remain unaware, but their devices can send vast amounts of email. Consequently, spammers avoid using their resources while maintaining anonymity, which complicates tracking efforts.

To safeguard your computer from being used to send spam, we recommend using a firewall and regularly updating your antivirus software.

Tips to prevent spam:

We recommend personal precautions to help minimize the amount of spam you may receive.

1. Use at least two email addresses: one for your important contacts and another (or more) for websites or mailing lists. This way, if you start receiving a lot of spam, you can discard that address.

2. Avoid having your email address visible on websites, as it’s easy for spammers to capture. If it must appear on a site, display it as an image or in plain text, like myemail @ my domain dot com

3. Avoid participating in chain messages sent to multiple recipients in the ‘To’ field. Encourage your contacts to use the ‘BCC’ (blind carbon copy) field or mailing lists.

4. Do not respond to any spam messages. The sender’s address is typically fake, so replying may reach someone unrelated. The opt-out instructions are often false, usually just confirming to the spammer that your account is active, resulting in more junk mail.

5. Never purchase products advertised through spam to avoid supporting these practices.
